The Sushruta Samhita was the first book to describe the tradition of surgery in Indian medicine. The author was the scholar, surgeon and teacherSushruta, who is generally believed to have lived round 600 B.C . The Susruta Samhita is considered one of Ayurveda’s four principal books on surgery and the only work still existing today.
